The goal of every ARISTOPETER is to take their pet wherever they go, and this is often not an easy task. Although we increasingly have more options to take our ARISTODOG on all types of transport, we must be aware of a series of rules and conditions on how to travel with your dog on public transport correctly depending on the type of vehicle.
Traveling by subway
Since 2014 in Barcelona and 2016 in Madrid, it has been permitted to travel with your pet on the subway.
The first rule for traveling with your ARISTODOG on the subway is that it must be identified, have a microchip, and be registered with the municipal registry. It must also wear a muzzle and a leash no longer than 50 cm, and in some cases, such as in Madrid, ride in the last car.
There are also specific timetables. From Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. However, on all weekends and holidays throughout the year, access is freely permitted without limitations, as it is in July and August.
Important: only one pet per passenger is allowed, and the use of escalators is not permitted.
On the Bilbao subway, only those weighing no more than 8 kg can travel, and only if they are in a carrier or in arms. In Málaga, those weighing less than 10 kg are permitted, provided they are not "potentially dangerous" dogs. Only guide dogs and small animals in carriers are allowed in the Valencian Community.
However, in Seville and Palma de Mallorca, animals are not allowed to enter, except for authorized guide dogs.
Traveling by train
-Commuter Train
This is the only means of transport where you can travel with your dog regardless of its size and for free. The only conditions are that it must be on a leash, and if its weight exceeds 10 kg, it must wear a muzzle.
-Medium and long-distance trains and AVE
On these types of trains, only dogs weighing less than 10 kg can travel, and it is mandatory for them to be in a carrier whose dimensions do not exceed 60x35x35 cm. On some types of trains, an additional fee is charged for traveling with a dog.
Traveling by bus
Dogs cannot travel on urban buses, with the exception of guide dogs. However, on intercity buses, the law states that dogs must travel in the luggage compartment within a carrier. The same applies to urban buses, except for guide dogs. Additionally, some companies charge 50% of the ticket price for traveling with a dog on the bus.
