When we travel, we always carry our passport, identification document, etc. The same rule applies to our faithful companions. If you plan to travel with your pet, it is necessary that you comply with all legal procedures and have the necessary documentation to avoid setbacks at the departure and/or arrival airport.
If you travel within Spain:
To travel within Spanish territory, you can carry your pet's updated passport or the official health card that proves it has been vaccinated against rabies.
If your destination is a country in the European Union (except the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Sweden):
Our pets must be accompanied by a Pet Passport indicating that they have been identified by means of a clearly legible tattoo or a microchip and that they have received their rabies vaccinations.
If you travel to Sweden, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Malta:
These destinations require more conditions than the rest of the European continent, so it is necessary to conduct more in-depth research with your veterinarian to avoid inconveniences when traveling.
In addition to their updated passport with vaccinations, deworming, and microchip, our pet must have undergone a neutralizing antibody test with satisfactory results. It is important to consult your veterinarian for details of the test and to verify that all destination regulations are met.
When traveling outside the EU, the veterinary passport, which is only valid for travel within the European Community, is not accepted. In this case, we must obtain an "Official Export Certificate" for our pet.
When you start planning your trip, it is important to speak with the veterinarian to have your pet's health card or passport updated. If you are traveling internationally, remember to get the necessary vaccinations and tests. It is recommended to consult the veterinarian at least two months before the trip if it is within the EU; and further in advance if the trip is outside the European area.
