Our ARISTODOGS are an important part of the family; we spend so much time with them that little by little they start to look like us. It’s often said that dogs resemble their owners. Renowned professional photographer based in Hamburg, Germany, Ralph Hargarten, was inspired by this to produce a series called “A Dog’s Life.”
The goal of this photographic series is to show that our furry friends are more human than they seem, especially in how they express themselves. It is said that dogs and humans share 75% of their genetic code. Could this be why our furry friends have around 100 facial expressions?
The set used for the portraits was simply a black background, so that the canine's personality could stand out. The featured photograph is of the Pug, whose unique expression evokes that of Winston Churchill in that famous portrait taken by Yousuf Karsh. The funny dog's gesture of pride and elegance is very similar to that of the prime minister in the image that appeared on the cover of Life magazine during the 1940s.
The project began in 2013 and continues to add photos over time. Currently, the series has over 50 photos, all of dogs showing expressions of surprise, joy, doubt, etc.
The artist is a veteran in the advertising world, having had photographic sessions in major cities like New York, Paris, and London over the past 16 years. He has done lifestyle and landscape photography, and is now starting to enter the pet world, alongside other photographers like Seth Casteel and Amanda Jones.
