“Canine Fantasy,” Spain’s first dog concert

“Fantasía canina”, el primer concierto perruno de España

Do you know Rafelbunyol? It is a Valencian municipality of about nine thousand inhabitants where an unprecedented and pioneering initiative in our country has been launched that will surely put them on the map. In Rafelbunyol, they are going to hold Spain's first concert for dogs!

The concert will be held next September 18th in "La Senyera" park and will inaugurate the fifth edition of the Rafel Festival of Contemporary Music project. It will be Spain's first concert of music for dogs. This means that the music will be ultrasounds only audible by canines. Something unprecedented in our country!

"Canine Fantasy" is a creation by Jesús Salvador Chapi and is designed for dogs to be the listeners and protagonists of the event. In other words, for the first time, dogs will not go as human companions, but vice versa.

Regarding the creator, Jesús Salvador Chapi, it should be noted that he is a renowned composer, twice nominated for the Max Awards, as well as being a member of Grup Amores de Percusió, which has more than 26 years of experience. For him, this project aims to re-establish communication channels with other species and improve relations between dogs, their parents, and society.

Thus, the starting point for this innovative concert is studies showing that dogs understand and react to words according to their intonation. The six compositions that will be part of this concert use ultrasounds and Sonic clicks, filtered through electronic music and combined with vocals, strings, and percussion. In addition to that, the experimental component must be added, since, given that there are no precedents for events of this type, it is not known what the dogs' reaction will be. Will they howl in a chain like in this video?

The Rafelbunyol Culture Councillor points out that this is a project that goes further in the trend of incorporating pets, especially dogs, into certain human social practices. It is not just about facilitating access to a concert, but about composing especially for them and putting pets at the very center of creation.

The concert will be held outdoors, in a 10,000 square meter space, which can accommodate up to 150 dogs. Entry for dogs is free. Aristoparents must pay a symbolic entrance fee of two euros, which can be purchased at the Casa del Jove or reserved at 96 141 00 49 or via email cultura@rafelbunyol.es.

From ARISTOPET, we want to congratulate the organizers of the Rafel Festival and, of course, the creator of "Canine Fantasy," Jesús Salvador Chapi, for this artistic initiative, unique in Spain. We wish them great success and hope that they will inspire other creators and other entities and organizations so that activities by and for dogs will increasingly find their place in our society.

We encourage all of you who are nearby not to miss this interesting musical experience!
