Dog-Friendly Beaches 2019: MÁLAGA

Playas para perros 2019: Málaga

Since June 2015, after the Junta de Andalucía's announcement prohibiting our dogs from accessing most beaches, many municipalities that intended to enable new beaches for our ARISTODOGS halted these actions. Even so, we are in luck and have several beaches available to enjoy with our ARISTODOG.

Malaga residents and their ARISTODOGS are in luck: We have a dog-friendly beach in Fuengirola, Malaga. Despite the Junta de Andalucía's prohibition of dog-friendly beaches in summer along the entire coast, Fuengirola is maintaining its pet-friendly beach for 2019. The part of the beach that belonged to the Mijas town council was indeed closed.

This new dog-friendly beach in Fuengirola is located less than a 10-minute drive from the city center. To get there, the fastest way is to take the A-7, and once you pass the Fuengirola River, exit the highway. When you reach the roundabout, take the first exit towards the beach.

Arroyo Totalán Beach

The Arroyo Totalán Dog Beach in Malaga remains open, and the reason it is still operational is because its waters are supposedly not suitable for swimming (a fundamental requirement for being a dog-friendly beach in Andalusia), although its waters are clean and clear. It is located between the municipalities of Malaga and Cala del Moral, near the cement factory.

The beach is next to the mouth of the Arroyo Totalán, in the Malaga neighborhood of La Araña, and to access it from Malaga you must take the MA-24 towards Rincón de la Victoria.

Playa de Piedra Paloma

Piedra Paloma dog beach is the third official dog-friendly beach in the province of Malaga. It is located in Casares, where a few years ago one of the first dog-friendly beaches in Malaga, La Playa de la Sal, was situated. La Playa de la Sal was closed in 2015 by order of the Junta de Andalucía, but in 2016 the town council obtained all the necessary permits to reopen a dog-friendly beach in its municipality. This summer 2019, Piedra Paloma dog beach will remain open to our ARISTODOGS. This beach is bordered to the west by the Torre de la Sal, where the previous dog-friendly beach was located, and to the east by Piedra Paloma, which borders the municipality of Estepona.

It is made up of stones and sand, and until recently the beach was in a semi-natural state, as there were no buildings or services of any kind. Recently, a beach bar has been built.

Torre del Mar Beach

The beach was inaugurated on August 10, 2016, and is made up of fine sand, ideal for enjoying your holidays with your ARISTODOG. This summer 2018 you will still be able to enjoy this fantastic dog-friendly beach. It is a section of about 4,000m² located in the Mortero section, near the mouth of the Vélez River. This dog-friendly beach in Torre del Mar has a 150 m² dog toilet area, a 250 m² play area with a swing, two balance beams, a jumping area, a jumping wheel, a tunnel, two tiered rest areas, and a ramp. In addition, along the sandy area you can find a fountain for people and dogs, bins with covers, and signage with rules of use.

Playa del Pinillo

El Pinillo Dog Beach in Marbella is located on the outskirts of the city. It is a beach 1.5km long made of sand and some stones, and it is usually not very busy in summer, which is why it has been chosen to set up an area suitable for dogs. This summer 2018, several improvements to the beach are planned, such as dog fountains and showers to remove sand. If you go by car, you must park your vehicle in the parking lot (for some reason beyond our control, Google Maps does not include the path to the parking lot and the route does not appear exactly). To get to the dog area, you must walk through a wooden path.

Torrox Beach

On Saturday, July 7, 2018, the dog beach of Torrox, in the province of Malaga, was inaugurated. It is a small beach made of pebbles located at the mouth of the Torrox river and next to the lighthouse. According to the mayor of the town, its location is perfect, as the space is naturally delimited and has easy access. The beach is equipped with bins and cleaning equipment, open all year round and without time restrictions.

We are talking about a semi-urban beach made of dark sand with an average width of about 25 meters. It is located in the westernmost area of Playa de Nueva Andalucía, near the Gran Hotel Guadalpín Banús. Ventura del Mar Beach is open for ARISTODOGS from March to September. Remember that not the entire beach will be for dogs; you will only be able to stay with your ARISTODOG in the 250 linear meters delimited for such use.

Benalcan

This summer 2019, Benalmádena is celebrating, as they have inaugurated the municipality's first dog-friendly beach.

It is a small beach made of rock and coarse, dark sand. It is located next to the Holiday Wood hotel. It has a dog shower, bins, and special drinking fountains for dogs.

The rules for enjoying this beach are the same as those for other beaches in the country, but, in case you have any doubts, here they are:

– Keep your pet under control at all times

– Pick up their droppings

– Try not to disturb other users

– Carry your pet's vaccination record with all vaccinations up to date

– If the dog is included in the list of potentially dangerous dog breeds, it must be leashed and muzzled.
