Who hasn't dreamed of sleeping in a minimalist bed? Although sometimes a little extravagant, they can be very comfortable, and if not, ask these ARISTOCATS from Los Angeles.
Every year, prestigious designers and architects in Los Angeles design original shelters for homeless ARISTOCATS, making their lives easier in some way. These designers come together under the name “Architects for Animals,” designing and building these innovative outdoor shelters for abandoned cats.
This group of architects and designers organizes the annual “Giving Shelter” event. During this event, the designed structures are exhibited to the public and then donated to different organizations that work with abandoned animals. Such as FixNation, a non-profit organization responsible for the care of cats in the San Fernando Valley area (Los Angeles). It offers sterilization services and guidance and information on the care of feline colonies. It also collaborates with various associations to promote cat adoption.
Los Angeles is one of the areas with the largest population of homeless ARISTOCATS. It is estimated that there are between one and three million cats. This association was founded 10 years ago by Mark Dodge and his wife Myers, with the aim of helping and seeking a more effective and humane alternative to the mass euthanasia of these felines.
The last edition of this event was held at the HermanMiller exhibition hall in Culver City, California. Twelve architectural firms participated in this exhibition. The exhibition featured 13 shelters and 28 cat food bowls. The feeders were decorated by celebrities, including Charlize Theron, Morgan Fairchild, and Tricia Helfer, among others. Both the shelters and the feeders were auctioned online.
The shelters were designed based on the needs of cats. They are made of wood, felt, cement, brass, aluminum, plastic, ropes, plant materials, and glass.
This initiative is an alternative to improve and make life easier for these street cats. But the best alternative is always adoption and finding them a new home where they receive the affection they deserve.
