It was 1877 when a group of New York gentlemen, dog lovers, decided to organize a very special gala in Manhattan, with the aim of being able to chat about their favorite hobby and share experiences. A competition starring dogs that, as early as 1908 (without the help of social networks or television), exceeded the figure of 2,000 dogs registered in the event for the first time. In 1937, 3,140 dogs were registered. And popularity grew and grew until, in 2012, participation had to be restricted to 2,000 participating dogs.
Today, what we know as the Westminster Kennel Club, is the largest dog competition in the world. A great event for lovers of cynology. In fact, a few days ago, the 141st edition of this impressive dog show was held at Madison Square Garden in New York, under the watchful eye of fans and dog lovers from all over the world. This edition featured the participation of 2,711 dogs belonging to 192 breeds, from 16 countries along with their ARISTOPARENTS or trainers.
In this annual competition, animals are invited to compete under strict entry requirements, such as having a history of victories in other competitions. Therefore, it is not suitable for all dogs.
The competition is structured into different categories that are formed by different groups: sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting, and herding. Dogs compete to be the best in their breeds, then participate to be the best in their group, and finally, compete to win the prize for the best in the entire competition.
On this occasion, the undisputed winner was a spectacular and wonderful German Shepherd named Rumor. Rumor, along with her trainer, Kent Boyles, was crowned queen of the competition. And success tasted like glory to her, because last year she was on the verge of winning the award. Not everyone believed in her, but Rumor gave it her all. And thanks to that, she adds to her winning record, which boasts more than 103 awards, achieved in her five years of life. Bravo, champion!
Trick also deserves a special mention for winning the Masters Agility. Trick proved to be a prodigy of precision, elegance, and agility. Watching him jump, it seems like what he does is a piece of cake, right? But it's not. Only he and his trainer know how many hours of training they have dedicated to him to beat so many dogs, so well prepared and so fit.
We also can't forget Adrian, this incredible Irish Setter, with natural class and beautiful fur, who won the Sporting Group award.
As you can imagine, attendance at this event is also limited. But luckily, with this video, you can see part of the incredible show that was held a few days ago.
