February 20th
Today, International Cat Day is celebrated, and the reason is due to the famous White House cat of the Clintons, named Socks. Socks was the cat of the daughter of former United States President, Bill Clinton. He was adopted in the 90s by the White House family and went from living on the street to having the life every animal deserves.
Socks fell ill and died of cancer on February 20, 2009, and since then, this day has been commemorated as International Cat Day to honor Socks.
The Clinton family's cat was widely recognized for being black with white paws as if wearing socks, but also for his presence at White House family events.
August 8th
Since 2002, this day has been considered International Cat Day, due to an initiative from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IPAW). The reason they decided to commemorate this day as International Cat Day was to carry out a movement to promote respect and care for animals, with the aim of having fewer stray cats.
October 29th
Every October 29th, the third International Cat Day of the year is celebrated. It was an initiative carried out by pet expert Colleen Paige, with the aim of achieving 10,000 cat adoptions on that day. And this initiative is attempted to be repeated every year.
