Life is changing, and so are our habits. We increasingly try to ingest and use organic products in our daily lives. Stress in people is increasing, even more so in the delicate situation we are experiencing with Covid-19.
There are ways to alleviate and reduce this stress naturally: CBD (cannabidiol)

The origins of CBD date back to 1940 in the chemistry department of the University of Illinois in the USA. There, a team of researchers managed to isolate it, although they did not glimpse the multiple therapeutic uses of this molecule.
Although the discovery was in the 1940s, it wasn't until the early 1960s in Israel that a team of scientists, who were researching the therapeutic properties of cannabis, "rediscovered" it. The first cannabinoid that Dr. Mechoulan's and Dr. Gaoni's team discovered, isolated, and synthesized was THC. Shortly after, they managed to isolate and synthesize the second most abundant cannabinoid in the cannabis plant, CBD (cannabidiol). The main difference between THC and CBD is that while THC is psychoactive, CBD is not; that is, it does not alter the state of consciousness. Therefore, CBD is not subject to international drug conventions.
It wasn't until the beginning of the new millennium that the general public began to learn about the existence of CBD and its medicinal properties. Even today, it remains an unknown cannabinoid to large segments of the population, although increasingly, major brands and a growing number of users are becoming interested in and delving into CBD and its many possibilities for different medicinal uses.
Research is constantly being conducted on the multiple medicinal properties of CBD, confirming that there are a number of bodily disorders whose symptoms are relieved by it. It is recognized by the scientific community for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory power, although its anticonvulsant properties (effective for epilepsy patients) are also noteworthy. One of its great potentials is its neuroprotective and regenerative capacity, which helps to slow down diseases such as multiple sclerosis.
CBD oil can also be recommended to patients with psoriasis.
Knowing this, and that it is suitable for humans, it is also beginning to be used in pets. According to various studies and testimonials from pet owners, CBD can do wonders for your pet. For example, if your pet suffers from separation anxiety, a dose of CBD can help calm them down until you return. It also helps combat moderate to severe inflammation and pain.

We have spoken with different veterinarians, with Spain's first pet herbalist, and with people who already use it for their pets, obtaining their testimonies and bringing this product closer to us in a more personal way.
Borja Iribarne Garcia-Valdecasas, who markets CBD HAKUNA OIL Nalatales in Spain, shares his story and personal experience with this increasingly well-known substance.

“My mother overcame cancer, but still had her spleen removed, and after that operation, her blood pressure was extremely high, in addition to having arthritis problems and two herniated discs in her neck. On top of all this, she also had trouble sleeping. The only thing that could help her with her arthritis and neck hernias were anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants, which made her feel very bad and left her in a deplorable state day after day. So my mother asked for my help, and I started researching natural remedies. Having worked for Canadian companies and lived in Australia, I was very familiar with the Anglo-Saxon market, where CBD was helping many people with different illnesses and pathologies. So, after much study of the product, I decided to bring it to Spain and give it to my mother. After a short time, her arthritis improved significantly, and her sleep was finally deeper without the need for any medication.
During the lockdown, I spent much more time than usual with Nala, my dog, who is a Breton pointer mix. When the lockdown ended and I started going back to work and resuming the “new normal,” Nala began to suffer a lot from separation anxiety, and I again researched CBD, but this time for pets. Seeing that it was already being used in Canada, the US, France, and Austria, I decided to give it to Nala as well. Her anxiety improved, and that suffering from being separated from me disappeared.”
Nala's veterinarian, Sebastián from Rubión clinic (Dr. Gómez Ulla street, 12 Madrid), tells us about his experience with CBD and in what cases he uses it for his furry patients;
“My experience has always been positive; I have several examples of separation anxiety where it has worked wonderfully in some dogs, always aided by other therapy. I have used it very successfully in older animals with chronic pain, such as arthritis. After surgery where many pets need analgesics or anti-inflammatories that don't agree with them, they have managed to alleviate the pain with CBD oil. The best part is that I haven't had any animal react poorly; in the worst-case scenario, they don't perceive any effect. In short, CBD improves the quality of life of our pets.”
During our research on CBD, we encountered veterinarians like Rocío, a vet at Arco Iris clinic (Valverde Street, 48 Madrid), or even COLVEMA (the official college of veterinarians of Madrid), who, due to lack of knowledge, warned us that although it is not a psychoactive substance, it must be administered moderately and always under the supervision of our veterinarian.
We wanted to know more, so we called the herbalist Sol de invierno, which works with all kinds of organic products for our pets. We spoke directly with the owner, Ester García. She explained in what cases she recommends CBD;
“If our pet has atopic dermatitis, it can be applied to the skin for immediate and relaxing relief. It can also be taken orally by adding CBD oil to their food. Although CBD oil is a supplement and comes with a recommended daily amount, for it to be effective and safe in cases of conditions such as allergies, the amount must be set by a veterinarian,” Ester warns us at all times.

In general, many decades of studies have shown that medicinal cannabis, or more specifically CBD oils, have countless health benefits for animals. You can use these products regularly to keep your pets healthy and help alleviate anxiety, pain, cancer, or seizures. Always use CBD oils appropriately and consult your veterinarian.
