The arrival of an ARISTOCAT at home will completely turn your life upside down. If you're a first-time ARISTOPARENT, you'll be overwhelmed with questions about how to care for your cat and you'll want to give it the best possible treatment, so don't worry! We're going to give you some general guidelines for caring for your cat and ensuring it lives like a king.
Food and Water
Let's start with the basics, because it's essential that your cat always has food and—above all—water available. We recently talked about how much wet food you should give your cat, and we recommended that your cat always have kibble available to eat whenever it wants. Cats, especially when they are young, don't usually drink much water, so you should make sure they always have fresh water within reach (we'll tell you here why automatic water fountains are a great option for your ARISTOCAT to drink water, and that you monitor that it drinks enough). If you don't have a fountain, change its water frequently so it always stays fresh.
Feed them well
Don't overfeed them. The rate of pet obesity is increasing more and more, and that's due to ARISTOPARENTS who overfeed their furry friends. It's important to feed them a healthy and balanced diet because being overweight causes serious problems for them, even leading to death. Make sure that the food you give your ARISTOCAT is of quality and contains the nutrients they need.
The litter box
You probably already know this, but having a litter box at home is essential. Cats are very clean animals and need a specific place to relieve themselves. Always place the litter box away from food, and if it's in a corner where your ARISTOCAT feels it has privacy, even better.
The bed
It's also important for your ARISTOCAT to have its own bed. Place it in their favorite spot so they can rest in it. A cat sleeps an average of 16 hours a day, so its bed needs to be of top quality; we talk more in depth about this here
Stimulate them
A cat needs activity to develop, and even more so if it's young. Dedicate time to them, play with them. Cats are very demanding, so observe them to find out what type of toys best suit their personality; there are countless models: those that make noise, roll, different materials... in ARISTOSHOP you'll find everything you need to keep your cat entertained.
Monitor their bowel movements
Don't just clean the litter box without paying attention to your ARISTOCAT's bowel movements. Familiarize yourself with them, as any change in them is an indication that something might be wrong, and you should take them to the vet.
Buy them a scratching post
Sharpening their claws is a necessity for them, and it also makes them happy. Cats need to scratch their claws frequently to sharpen them and also to mark their territory, as well as to stretch. Is your ARISTOCAT destroying all the furniture in your house? Try a scratching post; you'll surely notice the change. And if you're not home, a scratching post will provide them with the entertainment they need.
And finally, of course, give them lots of love. Your cat will form emotional bonds with you and will need you to show affection, but don't forget to give them their space too! Pet them when they ask for it and leave them alone when they need it. And by the way, a brushing now and then will do them wonders 😉
