Katy has always been linked to the fashion world, starting with a store in the center of Madrid and later pivoting to the online world with Closket, www.closket.com (a marketplace for buying and selling second-hand clothes), where she manages an entire fashionista community. Additionally, she is a renowned DJ, yogini & Entrepreneur with over 10 years of experience playing nationally and internationally in clubs, festivals, and events. Daughter of Lucas Sainz, founder of Los Pekenikes, she grew up with music as a way of life. She studied piano from a very young age, an instrument she later traded for the mixing console. Her musical style combines genres such as house, deep house, tech house, techno, and even rock.
Katy Sainz is, without a doubt, one of the most sought-after DJs for nightlife, all kinds of events, and private parties. She has played in the most important clubs in Madrid (Kapital, Pacha -Teatro Barceló-, El Amante, Mondo Disko, etc.), as well as in Ibiza (Pacha, Destino, Cipriani), New York (Le Baron), Miami (Bardot), Barcelona, Marbella (opening for Luciano & friends at La Suite de Puente Romano) and many other places.
An insider and connected to the fashion world, she has become a regular at parties and events for important brands such as Emporio Armani, Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Audemars Piguet, Intropia, Kiehl’s, Lancôme and Uno de 50, and for magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan and Woman. For some of these events, Katy is joined in the booth by Spanish top model Cristina Tosio, with whom she forms the duo Crush. Their synergy and polished image create dynamic and elegant sessions. Their essence is exclusivity, and their joint performances are increasingly in demand.
Katy Sainz is also the promoter of Black Heart, an underground electronic music party featuring only female DJs, with Crush (Katy Sainz & Cristina Tosio) as its resident duo.
Katy combines her role as a DJ and entrepreneur with yoga, primarily practicing Ashtanga, Power, and Vinyasa yoga. In recent years, Katy has participated in several yoga and wellness features in magazines such as Telva, Cosmopolitan, and Women’s Health. She has also been featured as an "influencer" in masterclasses organized by Oysho, Mango, and Primark.
She has been very focused on yoga for many years and will soon have news about a wellness project.
How did you and Lenny meet?
A friend had a Pinscher, and I loved the breed. I looked for a good breeder, supposedly one of the best Pinscher breeders, in Palma de Mallorca. They sent me some photos and I chose a tiny little rat (Lenny). They sent him to me as a puppy, at 1 and a half months old.
How old is Lenny?
He just turned 12... (Wow! I can't even believe it myself)
Why is he called Lenny?
After Lenny Kravitz... my idol since I was 14.
What is a day with Lenny like? Do you incorporate him into your routine?
He used to come with me to the clothing store we had and even to the "office." But he's a very nervous dog and marks his territory a lot... peeing in the changing rooms was not cool at all. I also used to take him traveling; I did the kiteboarding course in Tarifa with him tied to my leg! But when I stopped taking him to work, I then got another Pinscher (since I bred him and we had puppies), and in the end, he always stayed home with Neo (who died in a car accident at 3 years old).
He usually has breakfast with me, he's very demanding, and I take him out in the garden. Now that he's older, he's mostly at home being quiet, and a few months ago I moved out with my boyfriend, and since he's not used to small apartments without a garden, I've left him with my mother, who has his usual garden (as if I could take him away, he'd die...).
What would you highlight about Lenny?
He needs to be in contact with a human being; otherwise, he gets anxious. And he has a certain demeanor... his soul is that of a Doberman, he thinks he's bigger!
Do you usually travel with him?
I used to, not anymore. Especially to the beach. And I had to keep him tied to me, to my ankle, while I sunbathed on the beach, because otherwise he would escape. He loves to go on adventures and mark everything he sees.
…Future plans
He doesn't have much time left... so I want him to enjoy a quiet life at home, as he's already given us several scares.
What would you recommend to someone who wants to get a pet?
Don't let the whim of the moment mislead you. Having a dog is a huge responsibility; they are like little "people" with feelings, and they get depressed when you're not around. Now that I've moved out, he's gotten some gray hairs... even though I go home to eat almost every day and spend time with him. A dog needs a lot of love; he loves you unconditionally, and he is not a toy.
