Do dogs watch TV?

There have always been rumors about whether dogs watch television. Some think it's illogical or untrue until they see it. However, more and more owners are surprised when their dog sits with them on the sofa to watch TV. And it's not that they lie down to sleep; they are actually paying attention to what's happening on the screen. Some bark, others follow the movement of objects, others jump towards the TV... Each one reacts differently. There are also those who don't pay any attention at all.

In the United States, there is a television channel, DOG TV, exclusively for dogs. It's a channel that broadcasts images designed, colored, and adapted for dogs. "The idea is to entertain canines when their owners are not home," explains Yossi Uzrad, the creator of DOG TV. It airs every day of the week, aiming to stimulate, relax, and entertain.

The reason the program was created was not for dogs to sit and watch television, as humans do. It goes beyond that; it was to ensure that dogs didn't feel lonely when they were home without their owners. It hasn't reached Spain yet, but you can view the program's videos on YouTube.

What do dogs see on television?

Urban legend says that dogs see in black and white. However, according to the Veterinary Ophthalmological Institute, they can perceive some color, though not to the same level as humans. The chromatic range of dogs is smaller. They only have two primary colors: blue and yellow.

Therefore, they are capable of recognizing movement on television. This includes animal documentaries, Western movies, cartoons, animal sounds... what they recognize most. Dogs can recognize other animals, as their sense of sight and hearing are highly developed, as is their sense of smell.
