Pet insurance

Los seguros para perros

Having a pet at home is very beneficial for people because they not only offer pleasant company but also give affection and love without asking for anything in return. However, it also entails a great responsibility, as their basic needs must be properly met: feeding them, taking them to the vet, walking them several times a day... In addition, dog insurance policies have also grown in recent years.

When is it mandatory to insure your dog?

There are several factors to consider when insuring your ARISTODOG. On the one hand, we must take into account its breed, and on the other, the autonomous community where you reside. There are specific cases, such as potentially dangerous dogs, which must have mandatory civil liability insurance, or autonomous communities like Madrid where it is necessary regardless of their breed or dangerousness.

*Cities where civil liability insurance for dogs is MANDATORY, regardless of breed: Madrid and the Basque Country.

Are only potentially dangerous breeds (PDBs) insured?

According to a study by Seguros Santalucía, despite PDBs continuing to generate the most insurance policies (70%, due to mandatory civil liability insurance), insurance for other breeds has also increased. There is also a differentiation depending on the breed: 81% of insured dogs are purebred, which often correlates with their potential dangerousness, and 40% are mixed-breed dogs.

Who are most concerned about insuring their pet?

A recent study by Terránea, a leader in dog insurance in Spain, shows that young single people between 26 and 35 years old, 25% of the total, are the most responsible with their dog's insurance, not only because of possible accidents they may cause or damage to other people, but also to guarantee them veterinary assistance. Terránea points out that young single people are more likely to opt for potentially dangerous breeds, which correlates with the higher uptake of insurance policies. Married couples also care about insuring their pets, although to a lesser extent than singles. Among married couples, women are more likely to opt for their dogs' protection (18%) compared to men (17%).

Which communities are the most Pet Friendly in terms of safety?

As a curious fact, the most committed communities in Spain are Catalonia, Andalusia, and the aforementioned Madrid. These are the territories where animals are most protected, as can be seen in the higher number of pet insurance policies contracted. More and more people are deciding to insure their dogs. This is shown by Terránea's study, which reflects, based on policies contracted in the last year, the progress of both the insuring client's profile and the most insured dog breeds, as well as the regions that are most committed to protecting themselves against mishaps affecting pets.
