There are stories that touch our hearts. And the one we are going to tell you today is one of them. It is a heartwarming story of friendship between a seven-year-old boy and his rescue.
Madden Humphreys, as the boy is called, is a typical child, but with two unique features: he has a cleft lip and his eyes are different colors. One sapphire and the other dark gold. These unique features have been for years the target of taunts, insults and threats from the typical "bullies" and "bad guys" at school. "Ugly" was the mildest thing they said to Madden. From there on, they even accused him of "looking like the devil."
As you can imagine, poor Madden came home crying day in and day out. His mother, Christina, had a terrible time. And she didn't know what to do to end her son's suffering. A topic that many parents face today and that, as we all know, is not so easy to solve.

Madden even wrote a story to vent. A story starring a boy who had no friends and had to play by himself to try to have fun. You could say that was the last straw. Madden's mother decided that something had to be done. And then she thought that if her son's best friend was not among children his age, he could perfectly be in the animal world.
The mother started researching on social media and found a private group of parents of children with special needs. One thing led to another (as often happens when browsing the internet)... until she found a photo of a cat named Moon, who was looking for a family. This cat was at Makoto's Mending Spirits Animal Rescue (Minnesota). Christina thought that this companion was exactly what her son needed. Since Moon, the cat, also had one eye of each color (a phenomenon known as heterochromia).

Thus, Christina, her husband Brad and their three children (Madden, Mylor and Mayson) embarked on a road trip to Minnesota, co-financed by friends and family who wanted to contribute their bit so that the family could successfully complete the trip.
As soon as they met, the chemistry between the boy and the cat was immediate. They understood each other, recognized each other and realized that they had a lot in common, beyond having the same different colored eyes. Since then, both of their lives have changed.
Madden's self-esteem has notably improved. As has his mood. He has found a best friend who is always available to him. He feels loved and understood. And he has understood that being born with a unique characteristic is not a burden, but something incredible that makes him special. We have already mentioned on occasion that there are studies that show that children prefer ARISTOPETS to their siblings. In Madden's case, this statement goes much further, since his ARISTOCAT has probably become the being who understands him best on the face of the earth.

For his part, it is undeniable that Moon's life has also changed by becoming part of a family where he is loved, respected and cared for. His destiny was linked to that of a very special child. And it has come true.
Hopefully, this story will serve to raise awareness about the importance of creating an inclusive, tolerant, open and friendly society, where all human beings and all animals find their place, no matter who they are or where they come from.
