The National Animal Association (ANAA) and the Federation of Animal Protection and Defense Associations of the Community of Madrid (FAPAM) have launched an information campaign to prevent 192 dogs from returning to the Altanería kennel, where they were allegedly mistreated and suffered from severe illnesses. The campaign is called I don't want to die in Altanería, and a petition has been started to spread awareness and prevent this situation.
The reason for this campaign is an ongoing legal battle due to a procedural error, which dictates that almost more than 200 lives must return to Altanería.
After several years of complaints to address this situation, on January 18, 2018, an inspection by Seprona, the nature protection service, the Community of Madrid, and the Paracuellos del Jarama City Council was carried out at the Altanería facilities, where they collected 29 dogs, and on May 10, 2018, two more.
Finally, on May 31, 2018, the Community of Madrid and SEPRONA returned to the facilities, where they collected around 192 dogs "due to the complete absence of guarantees from the owner and responsible party of the Center where these animals are housed regarding their protection and well-being, with the consequent risk to their health and well-being of being kept in such conditions."
The 192 dogs were placed under the custody of Animal Protection associations and families subscribed to these foster homes and associations.
And almost a year later, when these 192 dogs are already cured and recovered both physically and emotionally, ANAA and FAPAM report that the Community of Madrid has made "the decision to return them to the Altanería kennel, due to a procedural error."
Both ANAA and FAPAM state in the campaign that "more than 80 veterinarians and animal behavior experts have provided reports indicating that returning these animals to the kennel after a year of being fully integrated into a family is an aberration from the perspective of veterinary deontology: health and well-being."
Actually, the main reason why ANAA and FAPAM have launched this information campaign is to prevent these 192 lives, we are not talking about dogs, from suffering again the calamities they endured.
ANAA states that "in the face of this, we can only appeal to the common sense, empathy, and sensitivity of the citizenry, so that the injustice of returning the dogs to their previous situation is not committed. The dogs have already been victims of a puppy mill and cannot now be victims again of a "procedural error" on the part of those who should guarantee their well-being: the Ministry of Environment of the Community of Madrid."
They add that "in addition to the harm to the dogs, we must add the damage to nearly 200 families, many of whom have minors, whose sensitivity and empathy towards these animals will be severely affected. We must also not forget that the company "Altanería S.L." is the one that has caused this whole situation, having operated illegally for more than 10 years, and having disregarded all administrative resolutions since 2012."

And after almost a year, during which the recovery process for each of them has been very long, because they suffered from many diseases such as leishmaniasis, neurological problems...
