Maisie Green, an 89-year-old dog-loving grandmother, has knitted 450 items of coats and blankets for the dogs at the Dogs Trust shelter.
Dogs Trust is one of the largest dog welfare charities in the United Kingdom. It has been caring for dogs since 1891, over 125 years. According to data reflected on the organization's website, they care for more than 15,000 dogs each year and have a network of 20 centers across the country.
“Maisie regularly brings her knitted donations and we are very grateful for her support,” said Lisa Cooper, the center manager, in a Dogs Trust article. The grandmother donates her knitted creations three times a year with the help of her family, who assist her in bringing them. According to the organization, she has specified that over the years, she has brought approximately 450 items to the center, including both blankets and dog items.
The grandmother is delighted to do this, as she is passionate about knitting and animals, as she explained in an interview conducted by the organization. “I love knitting and I love dogs – it’s a wonderful combination!” She even detailed how long it takes her to knit both a coat and a blanket. “It takes me three days to knit a blanket and one day to knit a dog coat.”
“It keeps me busy and I often knit while watching television. I’m delighted to be able to help the four-legged residents of the center in some way,” she stressed.
The organization is extremely grateful for people who dedicate their time to help improve animal welfare. “Our dogs are very happy, making good use of these items, as the cold increases in the winter months. Plus, they love to feel comfortable!” Lisa Cooper gratefully acknowledged.
