Dog-friendly beaches in this community are thriving. Who would have imagined it in 2015, when the Regional Government issued a statement that forced municipalities to close their dog-friendly beaches. But as the saying goes, "where there's a will, there's a way." The municipalities, aware that it was something necessary for their residents and all the tourists who come to Andalusia, found a legal loophole and took advantage of it. Thanks to this, they began to open dog-friendly beaches in areas where the waters were supposedly not suitable for swimming. Let's check them out!
Beach in Almería
Playa de la Rana, in Adra, is located on the outskirts of the city and can be used all year round, as it is a delimited area, outside the urban center, in an area with very few bathers in summer. That's why it was chosen to be converted into a dog-friendly beach. It has 350 linear meters, and its waters are not suitable for swimming (the main requirement, according to the Regional Government, for opening a dog-friendly beach in Andalusia). To keep the beach clean and in perfect hygienic-sanitary conditions, it is strictly forbidden to wash animals on the beach, feed them, or leave excrement there. In fact, ARISTOPARENTS are obliged to carry the corresponding bags for collecting feces.
Beach in Granada
The only dog-friendly beach in the province of Granada is located in Motril and opened in 2014, although in 2015 it had to close by order of the Regional Government. Fortunately, last year it became available again, and this summer 2017 it will also be open to our furry friends. The beach is located at the beginning of Playa Poniente, next to the port wall of the city of Motril.
Beaches in Málaga
1. Playa El Castillo, located in Fuengirola, this dog-friendly beach was one of the pioneers in Andalusia. Composed of sand and small pebbles, it is located in the Sohail Castle area, quite close to the road, so if your dog is restless, keep a close eye on it.
2. Playa Arroyo Totalán. This dog-friendly beach is located at the mouth of the Arroyo Totalán, and its waters are not suitable for swimming. It is not exactly the best dog-friendly beach in Andalusia and has been the subject of several complaints from users. Its surface is sand and pebbles. We hope the situation will improve soon.
3. Playa de Piedra Paloma, in Casares. This was one of the last dog-friendly beaches enabled in Andalusia. It is located next to another dog-friendly beach (Playa de la Sal) that was closed in 2015. Now, in 2017, residents of Casares can once again enjoy this new dog-friendly beach with their dogs, as it has obtained all the necessary permits to be an official dog-friendly beach.
4. Dog-friendly beach of Torre del Mar. This fine sand beach is one of the best dog-friendly beaches and stands out for its cleanliness. It was inaugurated last year, and this summer 2017 it will remain open to our dogs. This dog-friendly beach also has a play area.
5. Beaches El Pinillo and Ventura de Mar, in Marbella. On June 24, 2017, 2 dog-friendly areas were inaugurated on the beaches of the municipality of Marbella. These are 2 areas of 250 square meters each, where dogs can access during the summer without time restrictions.
Beach in Cádiz
Playa de Camposoto. This dog-friendly beach in Cadiz has been the subject of much criticism due to its poor access, as in addition to being very far from the parking lot, the long walk to the beach is quite tedious, especially when the heat is intense. Therefore, you must be careful with your dog's paws and take extreme precautions to avoid heatstroke.
Beach in Huelva
Playa del Espigón. This is a 2500 square meter area, stretching from the 5th walkway to the jetty. It is located very close to the city, making it ideal for those who live in Huelva or for those who wish to enjoy a city vacation with their dog.
