Our ARISTOPETS are everything to us. That's why we're increasingly concerned about them. Food and health are paramount, always. But as family members, we also think about other aspects that might be beneficial or interesting for them. Like games, the objects they interact with, the experiences they have.
Today, a walk in the park is no longer enough for us. We want more. We want more opportunities to enjoy with our best friends. And for that, we need leisure options that "admit both of us." This is how pet-friendly cafes and restaurants, concerts by and for dogs, albums for cats... come about. In short, activities for all tastes, breeds, and sizes.
Just when it seems nothing new can be invented, something surprising emerges that makes us smile. And that's precisely what we want to talk about today.
As we told you on another occasion, ethology originated in Austria. It may be that this country is much more advanced in terms of animal respect and understanding than ours, or it may simply be a coincidence, but an initiative that we loved also comes to us from there: "Home theater for pets."
Alex Bailey and Krõõt Juurak are two Austrian artists who have teamed up to offer an unprecedented show: "Performances For Pets." This project arose to offer theatrical entertainment to pets around the world. Yes, around the world. Bailey and Juurak have performed for more than 80 pets across Europe, in addition to having participated in the Bristol Biennial.
According to them, the idea arose from observing many pets. In different facets of their lives, by day, by night, interacting with other pets (whether of their own species or another, of their own breed or another) or with other species (known humans, with strangers); playing with familiar toys, but also with new ones... In short, observation, observation, and observation. And that's how they realized that ARISTOPETS, in their own way, are also artists. And that they demonstrate their creativity through their behavior. After this discovery, they both realized that, for their part, they had a lot of creativity to bring to light and materialize into something beneficial for pets. A truly animal project.
Bailey and Juurak consider ARISTOPETS their equals; there is nothing that differentiates them. That is why the goal of their performances is to provide pets with a source of artistic stimulation, as a thank you for all those years (since prehistory) in which animals have provided humans with affection, entertainment, companionship, protection...
Generally, the duo travels to the pet's home—its habitat—to meet the ARISTOPET and its ARISTOPARENT. They conduct a short interview to learn about the animal's personality and character, as well as to understand what they like and dislike. They also inquire about performance preferences (with music, toys, rewards...) to finally have enough material and knowledge to create an exclusive and personalized performance for each ARISTOPET.
Performances for ARISTODOGS last between 15 and 20 minutes. For cats, it's a bit longer (we all know their rhythms) and ranges from 20 to 30 minutes. The price per pet is around €12. But enough talk. Let's see the duo in action!
