Traveling isn't as easy as it used to be due to Covid-19, so in this article, we're going to tell you about an alternative plan to enjoy with your ARISTOPET. Get ready to walk and have fun in nature!
Every day there are more mobility restrictions, making it difficult to walk with complete freedom of movement. Because of this, it's the ideal time to think about other types of plans, like hiking – an outdoor activity with your pet as the star, the one who never lets you down.
There's a wide variety of hiking trails to do with your dog, some longer or shorter. Our dogs have a great time on them, running, barking, jumping, all in a natural environment.

Below, we share our 5 tips for hiking with your dog:
- Choose the route carefully.
We suggest planning and organizing the route very well, not only to avoid getting lost but also to choose a route where you can let your ARISTOPET off-leash most of the time. This won't be possible on very crowded routes where your pet might bother other people. Being off-leash, they'll enjoy the environment more, being able to play and run endlessly. We recommend starting easy and gradually increasing the difficulty; begin with easier paths so your ARISTODOG can get used to nature.
- Know your dog.
Consider your dog's physical condition. The route should be appropriate for their age and fitness level. Puppies or older dogs are not prepared for long hikes and can tire easily. Choose the route keeping in mind your capabilities and those of your ARISTOPET. You can give them treats along the way to motivate them and make their experience positive.

- Monitor the surroundings.
Being away from the city, without cars, noise, or urban obstacles, doesn't mean we should be completely carefree and let our pet have total freedom. If your pet obeys you, it will be easier to do the route with your ARISTOPET off-leash, but if not, you should get a long leash to control them while still allowing them to feel free. If your ARISTODOG is curious and likes to chase everything they see, it's better to keep them on a leash and consider adding a GPS tracker.
- Prepare your ARISTOPET's backpack.
When we go on a hike, it's also necessary to bring provisions for our pet. If the area has rocks, ice, or snow, it's important to include boots to protect their paws. The same goes for clothing; if it's cold or rainy, your ARISTODOG might need a coat or raincoat. You'll also need to include a portable water bowl with water and food to help them maintain the necessary energy and last the entire journey. It's essential to include a first-aid kit to handle any emergencies that may arise (ask your vet about what's needed for a complete kit) and a harness to secure your dog in rough areas where they need to be leashed.
- Watch your pet.
Pay attention to your ARISTOPET. If it's your first hike together, they might need you to be constantly aware of them, whether to check if they've stepped on a thorn, nettle, or splinter, or if they're tired and need a break. Observe their breathing; if they're panting excessively, they might need to rest.

In relation to the above, here are 3 routes for you to enjoy with your pets:
- Barrancas de Burujón (Toledo)
A place with spectacular scenery located on the outskirts of the city; you won't know if you're in Toledo or the Grand Canyon. In this natural area, you can hike the 4.5-kilometer Barrancas Ecological Path with your ARISTOPET and enjoy the views.
- Pelayos de la Presa (Madrid)
Located near the San Juan reservoir, you can hike on one of the various existing routes. There are different routes with all kinds of difficulty—easy, moderate, and difficult—and also distances, from 10 to 20 kilometers.
- Camino Schmid (Madrid)
An easy difficulty route to enjoy with your pet, you'll pass through beautiful places like the Arroyo del Telégrafo. If you do this route in summer, don't worry, most of the path is shaded. This trail is 6.5 kilometers long.
Finally, never force your pet to walk or cover more distance than their body is accustomed to, and you can always contact your trusted vet for any questions before starting a route. We hope both you and your ARISTOPET enjoy a great hiking trip! Let us know on social media if you know any routes to share with all the ARISTOPETERS?
